Crazy Movie Binge

Posted 3 days ago

For Christmas I received a gift card to Circuit City. I couldn’t decide what gadgets I wanted, and my sister wanted to buy some music, so she, Jen, and I went to the store and just about blew the gift card on the following:

  • American Psycho
  • Tommy Boy/Black Sheep (combo)
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Airplane!
  • Titanic
  • Gangs of New York
  • The Departed
  • Chipmunk Adventure
  • House, Season 2
  • 2 Green Day CDs
  • Sublime’s acoustic CD.

All that and we still have $50 left for some more (Wall-E was out-of-stock).

Project: Barebones Yubico system for PHP

Posted 223 days ago

I’ve started a project over at Google Code, so anyone can lend a hand or view the code. The project aims to be a simple set of classes for PHP that help you write your own Yubico Yubikey authentication systems. For instance, I intend to integrate my work with my OpenID provider so that I can easily ID myself online.

As soon as my key arrives in the mail, I will be able to test things a bit better. Yubico has set up a forum, but, alas, you need a Yubikey to post. However, reading is free, so I would suggest that those interested check out the server side forum for more details.

I was recently asked what where the pictures from our trip to the U.K. went. Well, you can still get to them here. And the Hawai’i photos are available also. Enjoy.

The Internet is a Technical Beast

Posted 234 days ago

Two things of note, one regarding the comment system of my site, and one about single sign-on systems…

Comments Re-enabled
I didn’t have the comment system enabled too long before I started to receive spam comments, advertising such goodies like pharmaceuticals, controversial sites, etc. I tried implementing a simplistic spam blocker, but ended blocking everything. I didn’t notice anything was wrong until Jen’s dad told me. A few days ago it was brought up again, so I sat down for a few minutes and fixed the erroneous conditional statement that was screwing things up. Please feel free, once more, to leave comments. :)

Single Sign-on with OpenID
Check out this video to learn about a new standard that’s gaining ground. It’s called OpenID, and it allows you to have a single sign-in for multiple sites. So you when you leave comments on someone else’s blog – say, LiveJournal – you can enter your OpenID and not worry if you don’t have a LiveJournal account. You can get your own OpenID for free at www.myopenid.com. Yahoo! users have it easy, because their Yahoo! usernames are also OpenIDs. If you do a lot of blogging and blog commentary, you might want to give OpenID a try. The more the merrier!
